GENERAL EXPECTATIONS of TROOP 07 Scouting is a brotherhood striving to teach boys how to become men and prosper in society. Troop 07 gives each boy a chance to make decisions concerning his future by teaching Scouting skills that he will retain for a lifetime. A. Participation: Scouts are encouraged to attend all meetings, outings, service projects, Courts of Honor, and other Scouting activities. However, the Troop recognizes that school, homework, family responsibilities and trips, sports, religious requirements, and other activities may prelude attendance by a Scout at all activities. For planning purposes and as a common courtesy, a Scout should notify his Patrol Leader (PL) or Assistant Scoutmaster (ASM) of his non-attendance so that his absence is excused. Scouts should remember that a requirement for advancement to all ranks is to “demonstrate Scout spirit,” and a key element of Scout spirit is participation in Scout activities. Boards of Review will inquire into participation for all Scouts who seek advancement. B. Communication: Troop communication is by emails, the Troop website and the weekly meetings. We also publish rosters, phone lists, calendars, and periodic letters from the Scoutmaster or Committee members. The Calendar, on the website, is a guide for future events and is constantly updated with the new events. The roster and phone numbers on the Web can only be accessed with the username and the password which you and your Scout receive as a member of Troop 07 at an orientation. This is for your protection. C. Meetings: • Troop 07 Meetings (all scouts) are held every Tuesday evening from 6.15 to 7.30 pm at the Singapore American School in Room H301 (High School). Troop 07 follows the SAS school August to June school schedule. The first meeting being in August. Parents are encourage to also attend. • The Committee Meetings (parents) meet once a month on Monday evenings from 7.30 to 9.30 pm in a member's home. Contact the Secretary for a schedule. Parents and Adult leadership may also attend. • Patrol Leadership Council Meetings (all Scout Leaders) are on Saturday mornings once a month at the Scoutmasters home from 10 to 11 am. All Scout leaders are required to attend. Parents and Adult leadership can also attend. D. Family Involvement: A boy is only the best Scout he can be if his family is there to support and help guide him through his growing years. Parental involvement from Troop meetings to activities, hikes, campouts, parent meetings, and Court's of Honor is encouraged but not required. Any time the Troop has a scheduled activity, families of the Scouts are welcome to join the fun. Those Scouts with strong parental and family support are more likely to advance and get the full benefits from the Scouting program. The Troop plans a campout approximately each month and families may accompany the Scouts and adult leaders. Guidance from the families is always appreciated for all activities. E. Parents: Without commitment from the parents, we would not have a troop. By commitment we mean being committed to bringing your son to each meeting. If you miss a meeting, you will miss something important about upcoming events. By commitment we mean being committed to being aware of what is going on in terms of activities and events. By commitment we mean being committed to helping your scout work on advancements at home. While you do not have to commit to being a leader, you can commit to being an active scout parent. We can teach your son how to make decisions and be independent, but unless you are aware of what we promote, you can not help enforce that at home. It all goes back to scouting being a way of life, not just a meeting and a campout. We need you to help us make this a full circle in your sonʼs life. We as leaders have nothing to gain. You, as a parent, have a lot to gain. Committee Meeting is an excellent way for parents participate in Troop 07. Parents can be a committee member or attend the meeting to voice concerns to the adult leadership of the Troop or share ideas. Activities, schedules, upcoming events, and policies are approved at these meetings. To join please contact the Committee Chairperson. Committee positions are Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Logistics, Advancement, Publicity, Training, Membership and Outdoor Activities. F. Drop-offs at Activities: Parents driving their sons to Scout activities will not leave them at the place of the proposed activity unless two registered adult leaders are present. G. Behavior: The Scout Law sets forth the principles governing a Scoutʼs behavior at all times. Especially at Troop meetings and activities, Scouts are expected to obey the Scout Law so that all members of the Troop can benefit from the planned activity without distraction or interruption. As with other aspects of the Troopʼs operation, boy leaders will take the first steps to maintain proper behavior, reinforced as necessary by adult leaders. Warnings will be issued to Scouts who disrupt Troop activities. Repeated problems may be referred by the Scoutmaster to the Committee for its consideration and appropriate action. In such cases, the Scout and his parents (or an adult leader whose conduct has been referred to the Committee) will be notified of the referral and afforded the opportunity to meet with the Committee and present any information they wish the Committee to consider. As a last resort for addressing misbehavior by a Scout or adult leader, by majority vote of the members present at the Committee meeting when a case is considered. The Committee may suspend a Scout or adult leader from the Troopʼs active roster when his behavior, including lack of care for Troop equipment, is disruptive or unsafe or creates disciplinary problems which have not improved despite Scoutmaster counseling and Scoutmaster-parent contact. In such cases, the Committee will specify a period of suspension and recommended corrective measures. At the end of the suspension period, the Scout or adult leader may apply to the Committee for reinstatement in the Troop.
